Advocacy

The Black Science, Technology and Engineering Professionals (BSTEP) is an advocacy organization promoting Black Excellence in Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation. We advocate for excellence by recognizing outstanding professionals through our annual gala awards; We also engage in policy proposals in the National Innovation System; Through our growing database of students and professionals we are able to speak to economic development issues from a Science, Engineering and Technology perspective.

Services

We run High School outreach support programmes for Maths and science subjects.

We provide a developmental platform for our student chapters at Universities.

We organize regular networking sessions with guest speakers on SET topics for our professional members.

We organize sessions with the aim of supporting technology based entrepreneurship.

We host the annual Black Excellence awards for black SET professionals.

Who We Are

The Black Science, Technology and Engineering Professionals (BSTEP), is a non-profit organization that was established in 2005. It is a non-profit Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) advocacy organization that seeks to promote the attainment of a critical mass of SET skills locally, regionally and internationally.

Apart from the goal of achieving competitive SET skills among the black community; we also aim to develop the Black SET Professionals to become responsible leaders within their respective areas of SET and in the general public domain.

Our supporting objectives will be focusing on the following:

  • Marketing BSTEP as the preferred voice for Black SET Professionals;
  • Increasing the number of Black SET Professionals locally and internationally;
  • Networking Black SET Professionals locally and internationally
  • Advocating for equitable access to SET infrastructure by Black SET Professionals;
  • Promoting for the use SET outputs to solve socio-economic challenges;
  • Influencing local and international SET Policy changes;
  • Monitoring SET policy implementation;
  • Developing and Supporting Black SET Entrepreneurs; and
  • Advocating for a SET Charter.
